Advanced Style: Best of 2010

These are some of my favorite shots from 2010.This year I have learned a lot. I have learned that you can climb three flights of stairs and still go out and sing and dance at 90 years old.  66 years old is the perfect age to rebel and dye your hair pink. Your social calendar and accessories collection increases with age. 98 year olds have more time to party than 28 year olds. I have learned that grey hair is platinum elegance and that we should dress for the theater of our lives. You can dance in your 80s, Dj at 79, and discover your creative side at 60. Canes are beautiful accessories and older ladies have more fun. Let this be the year that you follow your dreams, its never too late!

Senior Blogger Spotlight: Judith Boyd's The Style Crone

The men in Miami aren't afraid to wear color. This fellow was walking around talking on his cell phone when I asked if I could take his photo. He put his call aside for a moment to pose for a quick picture, shook my hand, and then went on his way.

Happy Holidays

 I am in the Caribbean with my family until New Year's Day so I won't be able to post as much as usual. I wanted to wish everyone a  Happy Holiday and tell you that I appreciate your comments and feedback and look forward to hearing from you everyday. I have met so many inspiring people and am overjoyed by the growing appreciation for Silver Style. I hope you get to spend some quality time with some of your older relatives and have a wonderful Holiday Season!

I started drawing "Fancy Ladies" when I was a little kid. I would make little books and tissue paper dolls full of these stylish gals for my mom and grandma. I recently started to draw again and it seems like  my style hasn't changed much. I hope you enjoy my most recent sketches!

Paris Onion

Dsankt of Sleepy City has posted a long and absurdly interesting write-up of his explorations over the years through the Paris Metro system, long after its doors have officially been closed.

"As we haven't walked every section of tunnel nor checked every door," he points out, "and considering the evolving nature of the system and the city it supports there is and will always be more to see, find and experience in the metro. This is in no way a definitive list, nor even a checklist for future explorers to use in their adventures in the metro, since discovering your own places is substantially more rewarding and something we should always pursue."

From "enormous vent systems" and the "abandoned platforms of an active station" to hand-drawn napkin maps and the "driverless robotrains of line 14," it's part adventure narrative, part infrastructural history, party underground photo-freakout—and, it's worth reading in full.

The Idiosyncratic Fashionistas

I have been meaning to meet up with the Idiosyncratic Fashionistas ,Jean and Valerie. for some time now, so I was especially excited to meet them for brunch on Sunday We got to talking about how fashion should be fun and how there should be more older models representing brands. The girls told me that sometimes they'll go places and people will ask them if they are "Ari's Girls". I am delighted to be associated with such wonderful and creative people.

These two fantastic ladies met about three years ago as Valerie was trying to get Jean to attend a textile show she was curating. Valerie told me, " I can talk to anyone who is wearing a hat, because we are on the same wavelength".
