The New 90 Year Old

All of the ladies above are between 90 and 99 years old. They do pilates, go out dancing, and have busier social lives than I do. I have learned that the key to living a long happy life, is to stay active and interested in the world. These gorgeous ladies take away the fear of aging and give us all something to look forward to.

An Advanced Style Makeover

After my divine run in with the girls from England(check out yesterday's post for the full story), I thought I'd brighten up Carol's day with an Advanced Style makeover. Carol has been a bit down lately, so she decided to come to New York for her 66th birthday, in order to get re-inspired. Carol rarely wears color so after a trip to Debra's, where we played with hats and put some bright make up on her, we headed over to Off Broadway Boutique. Lynn, Pat and the gang were ready to lend a helping hand for Carol's final transformation. We were even able to convince her to put on a little color. What do you think of Carol's new look? I hope you enjoy the videos above. It was truly wonderful running into these fantastic ladies who showed me that the ladies on Advanced Style are inspiring others to feel good about themselves.

Advanced Style's Moment of Divine Intervention

The most wonderful thing happened last night. I was on my way home from a performance at Town Hall when I ran into two lovely ladies from Northern England. It was 10:40 pm and I got off on a subway stop that I don't usually exit from, when all of the sudden the ladies above started shouting, "Ari Ari." I thought that I must know them from somewhere but realized that I didn't recognize them at all.
They told me that they  had been following Advanced Style for over a year and that the ladies I feature inspired them to come to New York. The lady on the left wanted to take a trip to New York for her 66th birthday to feel as free as the women I photograph everyday. She told me that it's hard to be herself in the small town where she resides,so she couldn't wait to visit New York where she could dress up and express herself.

This was a truly  some kind of divine intervention.Neither one of them had contacted me so to run into them in the middle of the night was pretty unbelievable. I pulled out my Flip camera to capture the moment on video and told them that I would take them to Off Broadway Boutique today. It was the Birthday Girl's goal to be on Advanced Style, so I had to make her wish come true.

"To Age Is A Privilege"

I stopped Joyce on the Upper West Side and asked her to share some of her style secrets.Joyce had some great advice, she said,"Style is about the right jewelry, the right know-how,the right neckline, and above all the right attitude." I think its important to share the ages of my subjects whenever possible, so I asked Joyce if she minded telling me how old she is. She replied, "Of course not. To age is a privilege, I am 79 years old."

The past month has been as close to a textbook example of overcommitment as I can think of, which has resulted in a pretty slow posting schedule here on the blog; who knows if anyone else has noticed. The rest of May will presumably be just as glacial, I'm afraid, but I'll be back to posting in the next few days!

Pat at Off Broadway Boutique

One of my favorite spots to find Advanced Style is Lynn Dell's Off Broadway Boutique. Not only are the clothes great, but they have a wonderful and knowledgeable staff ready to help with any style concern. Pat is one of Off Broadway's best. She is honest, helpful, straightforward, and super gorgeous and stylish herself. Stop by the store on 72nd, you won't be disappointed.

Blogger was down for nearly 24 hours yesterday, and seems to have erased some recent posts and comments. Anyone else out there having trouble with Blogger? Or with deleted posts?

Update: Blogger will be restoring missing posts, including, I hope, yesterday's look at Utopia Forever. Thanks to Clement Wan and Robert Seddon for the tip.

Update 2: The Utopia Forever post is now back up, and I will see about restoring lost comments.
